Soul Funky is a FREE Deep, Soulful, Funky House music gathering that’s been going down in the heart of San Francisco’s Mission District at Slate Bar every 1st Friday with resident DJ Kevin Garcia & special guests.

About 5 years ago, I, along with my good friend and fellow DJ comrade, Nick Doyle, were in search to continue a musical gathering every month after the home of our previous residency, 222 Hyde, had closed it’s doors. Fortunately, we were soon enough able to pick up where we left off by making the move from the heart of SF’s Tenderloin district, the “TL”, to the heart of the Mission at Slate.

Whether it was a large group of friends showing up to pre-game and get their Friday night started early, or us playing tunes with the bartenders as our audience, or a couple of random heads who happened to walk by and decided to come vibe out to the music; memories were made and cherished.

On Friday, October 6th, we say goodbye to “Soul Funky”, but don’t fret. Just be on the lookout for another chapter to begin. Brighter days are ahead.
